Jack Holliday Jack has performed professionally for a number of years, alongside his teaching career and photography business. He first started his career in pantomimes around the midlands, he went on to perform around the country in musical theatre and concert based performances, including touring the country performing as ‘Harry Styles’ in the UK’s number 1 ‘One Direction’ tribute act. He graduated from one of the top teaching universities in the country, graduating while it held the number 1 spot for most employable and best teaching based degree, studying Drama in the Community. He is a vocal coach and creative director who has directed over 60 productions in his career.

Other credits include: Annas (Understudy Jesus & Judas) in Jesus Christ Superstar, Chris in Miss Saigon, The Baker in Into the Woods, Corny Collins in Hairspray, Grantaire in Les Misérables, Alan Strang in Equus
Musical Direction credits include: Addams Family, Aladdin, Annie, Fame!, Footloose, Grease, Hairspray, Into the Woods, Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Peter Pan, Oliver!, Singing in the Rain, Thoroughly Modern Millie, West Side Story, The Wizard of OZ, 13 the Musical and many more.

Rebecca Dyer has been performing from a very young age and she appeared in her first professional show at the age of 7, the UK Tour of Annie. She attended Bird College where she gained a First Class Honours Degree in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre. Since graduating, Rebecca has performed as a featured dancer in the Beauty and the Beast Pantomime at Hartlepool’s Town Hall Theatre, as a dancer in Elton John’s Bennie and the Jets official music video, she also appeared in Viewpoint which recently aired for ITV.

Over the 12-week course, you will work with Stage & the City’s Musical Director Jack Holliday and choreographer Rebecca Dyer who will guide you through a selection of musical theatre numbers, working on the essential components, this Summer term its all about Women who create. We understand you may be a bit nervous if this is your first time, but classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment. Most of the singing and dancing will be done as a group but there are opportunities for solos! For those that have already completed an Introduction course with Stage & the City, or an alternative elsewhere, we suggest you look at our Musical Theatre Beginners course  which takes place on a Wednesday evening. Or you may even consider auditioning for our Musical Theatre Troupe.

Course Content - Summer Term

*Subject to minor changes

SPECIFIC SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN THIS TERM: Singing in the round, Fosse hands and style, adapting vocal and choreographic styles dependant on genre

  • WEEK ONE: Work on the style of Gillian Lynne (Cats, Phantom of the Opera) – working on a number from one of her shows focusing on choreo then vocals for the same song
  • WEEK TWO: Continue and finish the work of Gillian Lynne both vocally and physically
  • WEEK THREE: Run the number from the previous week then start working on a piece from the works of Sara Bareilles (Waitress) focussing on vocals
  • WEEK FOUR: Continue and finish the work of Sara Bareilles both vocally and physically
  • WEEK FIVE AND SIX: Work on the combined style of Irene Sankoff & Kelly Devine – the team behind Come from Away working on both vocals and choreography.
  • WEEK SEVEN: Work on the style of Arlene Phillips (Flashdance, Wizard of Oz) – working on a number from one of her shows focusing on choreography then sing the same song
  • WEEK EIGHT: Continue and finish the work of Arlene Phillips both vocally and physically
  • WEEK NINE: Run the number from the previous week then start working on the working on a number from Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, Mean Girls) focussing on vocals
  • WEEK TEN: Continue and finish the work of Nell Benjamin both vocally and physically.
  • WEEK ELEVEN: One week workshop working on Joann M Hunter (School of Rock)
  • WEEK TWELVE: One week workshop on Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek)

This course is our Level 1 Musical Theatre course. Once you have completed this course you will have the opportunity to join the Level 2 Musical Theatre Beginners course or audition for our exciting Level 3 Musical Theatre Troupe.
