WINTER TERM19th September – 28th November 2023 (11 weeks plus showcase)

Jack Holliday Jack has performed professionally for a number of years, alongside his teaching career and photography business. He first started his career in pantomimes around the midlands, he went on to perform around the country in musical theatre and concert based performances, including touring the country performing as ‘Harry Styles’ in the UK’s number 1 ‘One Direction’ tribute act. He graduated from one of the top teaching universities in the country, graduating while it held the number 1 spot for most employable and best teaching based degree, studying Drama in the Community. He is a vocal coach and creative director who has directed over 60 productions in his career.

Other credits include: Annas (Understudy Jesus & Judas) in Jesus Christ Superstar, Chris in Miss Saigon, The Baker in Into the Woods, Corny Collins in Hairspray, Grantaire in Les Misérables, Alan Strang in Equus
Musical Direction credits include: Addams Family, Aladdin, Annie, Fame!, Footloose, Grease, Hairspray, Into the Woods, Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia, Peter Pan, Oliver!, Singing in the Rain, Thoroughly Modern Millie, West Side Story, The Wizard of OZ, 13 the Musical and many more.

Rebecca Dyer has been performing from a very young age and she appeared in her first professional show at the age of 7, the UK Tour of Annie. She attended Bird College where she gained a First Class Honours Degree in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre. Since graduating, Rebecca has performed as a featured dancer in the Beauty and the Beast Pantomime at Hartlepool’s Town Hall Theatre, as a dancer in Elton John’s Bennie and the Jets official music video, she also appeared in Viewpoint which recently aired for ITV.

Develop confidence in your skills

Over the 11-week course, you will work with Stage & the City’s Musical Director Jack Holliday and choreographer Rebecca Dyer who will guide you through a selection of musical theatre numbers, working on the essential components of musical theatre. Sign up for our Winter Term and be part of the Stage & the City Annual Charity Showcase raising money for children with or affected by cancer to attend our children’s school for much needed fun and respite. Your course fees for the winter term also include one free ticket to the showcase, you just need to let us know the name of your guest!

We understand you may be a bit nervous if this is your first time, but classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment. Most of the singing and dancing will be done as a group but there are opportunities for solos! For those that have already completed an Introduction course with Stage & the City, or an alternative elsewhere, we suggest you look at our Musical Theatre Beginners course  which takes place on a Wednesday evening. Or you may even consider auditioning for our Musical Theatre Troupe.

Course Content - Winter Term

*Subject to minor changes

SPECIFIC SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN THIS TERM: As this is a showcase term, you will be mainly rehearsing the numbers you will be performing, however you will be learning how to take a song to professional performance level, learning how to conserve energy in both vocals and choreography to ensure both are to a high level and developing three songs to a high performance standard.

  • WEEK ONE: Begin working on the Choreography and Vocals for your Finale – From Now On – from The Greatest Showman
  • WEEK TWO: Start rehearsing From Now On as a physical and vocal warm up. Then begin working on your first group number – One Short Day from Wicked. You’ll start and learn the Audition sections. Start learning the choreography ready to start positioning and casting
  • WEEK THREE: Run From Now On as a warm up & start with vocal auditions singing a section of One Short Day as the audition. You’ll continue with choreo while casting is done-give out parts and set positions
  • WEEK FOUR: Run From Now On as a warm up. Continue with harmonies and choreography with new positions
  • WEEK FIVE: Run From Now On as a warm up – Finish One Short Day and prep auditions for song two
  • WEEK SIX: Run From Now On and One Short Day as a warm up – Begin auditions for song two Voulez-Vous-Mamma Mia then start vocals if there’s time and start choreo
  • WEEK SEVEN: Run From Now On and One Short Day as a warm up – Give out parts for Voulez-Vous and continue with vocals – continue with choreo
  • WEEK EIGHT: Run From Now On and One Short Day as a warm up – continue with vocals and continue choreo for Voulez-Vous
  • WEEK NINE: Run From Now On and One Short Day as a warm up – finish with vocals and choreo for Voulez-Vous
  • WEEK TEN: Clean and polish all three numbers focusing on keeping both vocals and choreo strong
  • WEEK ELEVEN: Final rehearsal before Showcase-Run all three numbers ensuring they are all at a high performance level

This course is our Level 1 Musical Theatre course. Once you have completed this course you will have the opportunity to join the Level 2 Musical Theatre Beginners course or audition for our exciting Level 3 Musical Theatre Troupe.
