Jack Holliday Jack has performed professionally for a number of years, alongside his teaching career and photography business. He first started his career in pantomimes around the midlands, he went on to perform around the country in musical theatre and concert based performances, including touring the country performing as ‘Harry Styles’ in the UK’s number 1 ‘One Direction’ tribute act. He graduated from one of the top teaching universities in the country, graduating while it held the number 1 spot for most employable and best teaching based degree, studying Drama in the Community. He is a vocal coach and creative director who has directed over 60 productions in his career.

Rebecca Dyer has been performing from a very young age and she appeared in her first professional show at the age of 7, the UK Tour of Annie. She attended Bird College where she gained a First Class Honours Degree in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre. Since graduating, Rebecca has performed as a featured dancer in the Beauty and the Beast Pantomime at Hartlepool’s Town Hall Theatre, as a dancer in Elton John’s Bennie and the Jets official music video, she also appeared in Viewpoint which recently aired for ITV.

Discover the joy and creativity of Musical Theatre in this fun and fabulous course. These weekly classes offer you the chance to master the essential components of Musical Theatre: acting, singing and dancing. If you love the West End and have a passion for singing along to showtunes, let our top industry professionals hone your theatrical skills. All of our classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment. Most of the singing and dancing will be done as a group but there are opportunities for solos!

Become a Master of your Craft

Over the 12 week course, you will work with Stage & the City’s Musical Director Jack Holliday and choreographer Rebecca Dyer who will guide you through a selection of musical theatre numbers, working on the essential components of singing, acting and dance.

You will develop the skills needed to perform in a musical and what it takes to keep an audience entertained. This is a great way to develop upon skills already learned in our Introduction to Musical Theatre Classes, or an alternative beginners course elsewhere, and take your talent to the next level! However, you are welcome to join this course even if you haven’t done an introduction course.

Course Content - Spring Term (Summer Term TBC)

SPECIFIC SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN THIS TERM: Learn to move and perform choreography with unity as an ensemble, explore different styles of Musical Theatre, singing in harmony, and learning to level your vocals to ensure cleanliness

  • WEEK ONE: One – A Chorus Line — Begin vocals and choreography separately.
  • WEEK TWO: Continue with song choice number 1 – focussing on dancing and singing as an ensemble
  • WEEK THREE: Continue with song choice number 1 – Combine the vocals and choreography to create a completed piece.
  • WEEK FOUR: Run and clean ‘One’ — Start song choice number 2 — Raise you up/Just Be – Kinky Boots
  • WEEK FIVE: Run ‘One’ then explore the different vocal styles associated with Contemporary and Classic Musical theatre singing. Continue learning the vocals and choreography for song choice number 2
  • WEEK SIX: Run ‘One’ then continue learning choreography and vocals for “Just Be/Raise You Up” focussing on unity both in choreography and vocals.
  • WEEK SEVEN: Run ‘One‘ then continue with Kinky Boots, focusing on vocal levels, ensuring no vocal group is weaker than another.
  • WEEK EIGHT: Run ‘One‘ then continue with Kinky Boots, applying the vocals to the choreography attempting to keep both strong whilst performing both disciplines together.
  • WEEK NINE: Run “One”, run and clean “Just Be/Raise you up” – Start on our final song of the term — “Seize the Day from Newsies” – focusing on vocal tone and Jazz style choreography.
  • WEEK TEN: Run our existing numbers and continue with our seize the day number. Learning to control our breathing in order to sing and dance without becoming breathless.
  • WEEK ELEVEN: Run our existing numbers and continue seize the day. Combining everything we’ve learnt throughout the term.
  • WEEK TWELVE: Run all numbers focusing on the cleanliness of vocal tone and choreography.

This course is our Level 2 Musical Theatre course. Once you have completed this course you will have the opportunity to audition for our exciting Level 3 Musical Theatre Troupe.  If you’re looking for more of an Introduction to Musical Theatre, join our class on Tuesdays in Camden.
