Five Reasons to Try Tap Dance

Tap dancing is a great art form to get involved in. It’s a feel-good activity that is a real crowd pleaser!

It’s also a great way to learn some new skills that can be applied to other genres of dance. Keep reading to find out why…

It improves your balance and coordination

In tap dancing, you need to move quickly and efficiently to maintain a rhythm. This means you need to know where your body’s weight is as it shifts from one foot to the other. By training your body to learn proper weight placements, you will be more coordinated and balanced which can be transferred to other dance genres.

You’ll learn musicality

With tap, you are not only dancing but also making music. Your tap shoes become an instrument and you will learn how to create and listen to music. By doing this, you will start to find that you get a greater sense of the beat of the music, making you a better performer

It’s a great workout

Tap dance is a great way to get the heart rate up in a fun and enjoyable way. It’s a lively and entertaining dance that works to strengthen the leg and core muscles.

It can improve cognitive function and mental health

Tap dancing can be a mental workout as well as a physical one as you’ll have to remember steps, technique and timings. It can also improve your self-esteem as you will be able to express yourself in a creative way. Learning something new can give you a sense of accomplishment whilst gaining confidence that you can apply to other areas in your life.

You’ll learn team-building skills

Like many other dances, tap requires students to work together in harmony to learn a routine. You’ll be able to work collaboratively with other students whilst expressing yourself in a new creative outlet. This is a very useful skill to have in the performing arts.
