Amy Mauvan is a professional dancer and choreographer from New Zealand, working globally. Amy trained in New York at the Peridance Capezio centre and now dances and choreographs for both stage and screen.  Amy’s screen credits include Power Rangers, Spartacus, Awake for a Moment and Eurovision plus many adverts and music videos. Amy splits her time between the contemporary dance world and musical theatre. Amy has danced in Chicago, Rocky Horror, Chorus Line and Cabaret, and recently choreographed for Little Shop of Horrors, and The Idea of America. Amy is great at working with students no matter what their level because her enthusiasm seems to bring everyone to her level. She aims high while having fun.

In this upbeat, high-paced Musical Theatre Dance Course you can expect a hybrid of show tunes all designed to get your feet moving and heart pumping.

Sign up to our Winter Term and you’ll have the chance to perform in our Stage & the City Charity Showcase in December!

This course will take you through the technique of Musical classics inspired by legends including, Bob Fosse, Gene Kelly, and Jerome Robbins. Work through fun, upbeat and camp attack routines from a variety of much loved musicals.

If you are into the sultry moves of Chicago and Cabaret, the drama of Les Miserable and West Side Story, or the outrageous Kinky Boots and Mamma Mia!, then this course is for you.

No experience is necessary! Just the willingness to have fun and give it a go.

Course Content Summer Term:

  • WEEK ONE-Circle of Life- A one off workshop getting big with the Lion Kings smashing opening number. We’re going to hit the ground and go running through the Savannah with this expressive contemporary choreography.
  • WEEKS TWO THREE AND FOUR-Holding Out for a hero-We spend 3 weeks building on this routine, each week we’ll add to this energetic 80s classic and delve into the pinnacle Footloose style.
  • WEEKS FIVE SIX AND SEVEN-Friend like me-Funky technical choreography with easy fun vibes, we need to bring the big personality for this one. Aladdin who?
  • WEEKS EIGHT NINE AND TEN-Too Darn Hot-This is a more classic Broadway jazz routine, sass and shoulder rolls abound. This number from the classic Kiss me Kate, plays with rhythm and tempo and really gets moving.
  • WEEK ELEVEN-Sway:-We bring everything we have done so far together in this one off master class. In the style of Broadway dancer centre legends we bring the classic style of Broadway into the 21st century.
  • WEEK TWELVE-Crowd Favourite- We pick a routine for the final week out of what we’ve done or by class suggestion. We’ll have a workshop style session and film our own YouTube style videos.

Course Content Winter Term: TBC

For this course, you don’t need to be the best dancer, we are just looking for a readiness to learn, energy and passion.

Please note that as we are an adult performing arts school, any video footage or photographs taken during your class may be used on our social media for marketing and promotional purposes.
