Our new Contemporary Dance Company will be one of Stage & the City’s elite resident dance companies. The Company will perform in showcases (including the Stage & the City Charity Showcase this December), performances, private and public bookings and more, with weekly rehearsals in its beautiful Kings Cross dance studios.

Dancers in the company will be taught intensive, challenging but enjoyable choreography. The company very much has a ‘family’ feel so you will be building confidence and making new friends at the same time!

Aside from weekly rehearsals, the extra-curricular performances, bookings etc will not be compulsory, although we encourage Company members to take part in as many as possible.

Course Content Summer Term:

• WEEKS ONE-FIVE: Warm up (10 – 15 mins) – a slightly faster paced warm up than the beginner’s class – a combination of light cardio, turns, yoga/strengthening exercises and some deeper stretching to get the body prepared for dancing.
  Technique (10 – 20 mins) slightly more complex dance technique sequences involving turns, directions, ballet, floorwork. The level depends on the general level of the company but is designed to give more knowledge of contemporary dance vocabulary, strengthening and confidence with more complex movement.
  Choreography (30 – 45 mins) company classes focus more on choreography enabling participants to push themselves with learning more in depth routines and feel a higher level of training. The pace is class led however we focus a lot on choreography detail, technique and musicality with an intention to perform as a company. The routines change every 3 – 4 weeks and most of the style is lyrical. Past routines have been to tracks such as Liberian Girl by Daramola, Rain by Ben Platt and Have Mercy by Eryn Allen Kane.
• WEEKS SIX-TEN: Same as weeks 1 – 5 but with much more focus on performance technique as a company. Routines will be learnt in detail so they are ready to be performed confidently as a company when we have a show or performance opportunity coming up. This is generally still class led so that the students will always feel thoroughly confident and prepared when performing.

Just a willingness to commit and give it your all. You will improve week to week. Alternatively come to the Beginners class and have a chat with the teacher to see if she thinks you are ready.

Please note that as we are an adult performing arts school, any video footage or photographs taken during your class may be used on our social media for marketing and promotional purposes.

This course will take place on Thursdays 8pm – 9pm, 29th September 2022- 1st December. ALL profits from this course will go towards Saving the Anna Fiorentini Kids Charity Theatre School.
