Claire Amias Claire is a RADA trained actor. She has worked extensively on stage and screen. She also acts, writes and directs for her theatre company A Monkey With Cymbals. On-screen Claire has played main supporting roles in numerous feature films including Mabel Smith in Borley Rectory (alongside Reece Shearsmith), Ms. Conrad in Telling Lies (alongside Jason Flemyng and Melanie Brown), the Young Nurse in Provoked (which starred Miranda Richardson and Robbie Coltrane), and Beattie in The Magic Hour. Stage roles have included Mags in Handbagged and Sheila in Relatively Speaking at Windsor Theatre Royal and on tour, and Maggie in Hobson’s Choice and Liz Essendine in Present Laughter at Chesterfield Pomegranate Theatre all for Paul Taylor-Mills. Also Claire has performed in several No 1 Tours – Funny Peculiar for Bill Kenwright and Handbagged for Eleanor Lloyd Prods.

Do you love to watch the intricate explorations of character in Channel 4’s Flowers? Adore the dark comedy of Mike Leigh’s masterpieces? Love to get under the skin of complex characters like Villanelle? This brand-new Acting for Beginners/ Improvers course is centered around developing believable and relatable characters from observation and improvisation.
If you’ve always wanted to learn how to bring naturalism to performance and to understand what it takes to develop a three-dimensional character, then this is the course for you. Using Mike Leigh improvisation techniques such as hot-seating, esteemed actor and director, Claire Amias will lead you in this Acting for Improvers skills course.
This course is suitable for anybody who has done an acting for beginners course in the past or relishes the challenge of learning new skills in a short amount of time even if no prior experience. In 12 weeks you will perform in a mini showcase to friends and family. This will be a fundraiser for the Fiorentini Foundation, supporting the creative outlet of children following the pandemic. So no need to be nervous about making mistakes! This challenge is all for a great cause! Following this 12 week course, where you will create engaging characters from scratch, you may wish to continue onto following terms where you will start to look at scripted work. This course is also a good stepping stone should you wish to audition for Stage & the City’s Acting Company. All classes are fully Covid secure.
The course will culminate with an in-house showing which will be filmed for you to watch back and see your progress.

This course will take place on Wednesday 6.30pm – 8.30pm, 19th May- 4th August. ALL profits from this course will go towards Saving the Anna Fiorentini Kids Charity Theatre School.
