BAFTA Calling

BAFTA Calling

The BAFTA Children’s Awards are a celebration of global young talent as well as the television and film industry with a young audience at the heart and focus of its work. Recognising the importance of this is something I have always felt passionate about, especially for those young performers at the start of their career. Categories range from Pre-School Animation to Content for Change celebrating both those in front of and behind the camera.

I was asked to be a Juror on the Young Performer panel, awarding a young performer for their performance in a screen project, albeit TV or film. Before meeting with fellow jurors, we were asked to watch a number of TV shows and films looking out for specific actors’ performances. This was a great opportunity to relive my youth and watch children’s TV again!

Through my job as an Agent for young performers I am constantly blown away by the talent, dedication and resilience these young people show and this was no different. All of the performers we were considering were extremely talented and in most cases were performing alongside more experienced adult actors. This takes real maturity and confidence yet they all remained natural and true to themselves.

As a panel we all met together to discuss the individual performers. It was an absolute joy to spend time with peers from all areas of the industry and here about their experiences and what they thought of the performances. We certainly all came away from the panel evening with the feeling that the future of the arts is in safe hands with these actors as the next generation.

To say I was honored to have been involved in this process is an understatement. It is a delight to see so many talented young performers making waves in the industry and I hope to be able to continue to support for this for many, many years to come.
