In anticipation of the exciting Acting Company debut production “13” by Mike Bartlett, we decided to get an insight into our cast members to learn more about the people behind the curtain!
This is Agneta Sjoberg who will be playing Ruth. If you want more information about “13”, click here.
Tell us a little bit about yourself, and your background with performing.
I work in Broadcasting for Discovery/Eurosport. I deal with all the content for Discovery’s Nordic channels- distributors, production companies, music reporting and I lead different projects. Last year I did a course with Claire, acting for showcase. In my mid 20s, I was a part of an acting company in Sweden and I performed in a few plays.
Why did you decide to join the Acting Company?
I thought it would be a good and fun challenge to develop new skills also to work with my confidence and nervousness. It has been in the back of my mind for a long time to join an acting company again. The lack of confidence and other things in my life came in the way, finally I was brave enough to do an audition. It is all thanks to Kelvin (who plays Dennis and Rob in the play) who really helped me encouraged me to come along to the audition.
What have you enjoyed the most from being in our Acting Company?
I have learn so much from our Director Claire she is such a great inspiration as well as Amy who is assistant director. I absolutely love telling the story and getting to know the person, Ruth, that I am playing. All of us in the acting company have become great friends and it such a lovely team spirit. I love my Monday evenings <3
You will soon be on stage at the Courtyard Theatre – is this your first time on stage?
I have been on stage a few times before – last year when I did Stage & the City Acting Showcase. Otherwise I was on stage over 20 years ago when I did a few plays back in Sweden where I performed in plays by Molière and Sartre.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to take an Acting course but might be uncertain?
Do it!! I remember the first time I walked into the room at the Beginners course. My heart was beating fast and I was so nervous I almost turned around but decided to stay. I am so glad I did, Claire has been amazing throughout the courses I have taken with her. I have learnt so much, pushed myself, and with Claire’s knowledge and help I would not have been where I am today. I have got so many new and wonderful friends, it really has changed my life.
If you’d like to come and support our Acting Company’s first show, then don’t miss the production running on the 29, 30, and 31 March 2020 at the Courtyard Theatre.
