The holiday season almost becomes a cyclical routine: the pre-holiday excitement, gift buying and wrapping, all the shared meals and pub drinks, visiting close and extended family, singing carols, and eating a Christmas dinner. Before you know it, you’re three stone heavier and are looking back on the year with a few regrets. Promise yourself that January will be different. And then it isn’t. You’re not alone! A Forbes study found that 80% of Londoners fail their New Year’s resolutions by the second week of February.

How can we be like those determined in the 20%? It’s with these 3 simple steps:

Get specific, go slow, and get support.

Performing arts school Stage & the City is ready to support all those 80%-ers with their creative goals in the new year. Opening in 2014, Stage & the City offers acting, dancing, singing, and musical theatre courses to adults in London who just want to have fun. The courses focus on developing performance techniques and styles in their central London classrooms. On Thursday, January 9th, Stage & the City will be opening its doors to the public for a Performing Arts Experience Day, held at the Pauline Quirke Academy (242 Pentonville Road, N1 9JY) near Kings Cross. Running from 19:00–21:00, participants will be led by West End and industry professionals through a fun workshop of acting, dancing, and singing.

How can Stage & the City help you be successful in 2020?

Step 1. Get specific – Stage & the City offer over 20 different courses in acting, dancing, musical theatre, and singing during weekday evenings. With courses like ballet, screen acting, or musical theatre beginners, you’re spoiled for choice in how specific you’d like to work on yourself.

Step 2. Go slow – All courses run for 6, 8, or 12-weeks for 1-2 hours in the evenings, allowing you to progress through your course at a healthy pace and see your skills develop weekly.

Step 3. Get support – You’ll be surprised by now many of our students are there for the same reasons you are! Whether it’s picking up an old hobby, trying something completely new, or just to meet people, you’re always amongst friends who work together to become better versions of yourself.

Stage & the City’s courses are the perfect remedy for those who want to build their transferable life skills like confidence, charisma, and presentation abilities. Participants range from all walks of life, like lawyers to lawn mowers, and the ages range from 20s to 60s. In this inclusive environment, it’ll be easy to keep you motivated throughout 2020.
