Stage and the City’s Ensemble Company present…
Chekhov’s The Seagull-Reimagined.
An early release offenders unit…a former famous writer and actress offer weekly workshops to previous offenders who are forced to attend in order to keep their probation. Since the local estate which houses the unit is on Sorin’s Road, they decide to put on The Seagull together.
What ensues is a contemporary reimagining of Chekov’s classic. We find ourselves exploring a seagull within a seagull within a seagull. Unrequited love and affairs a plenty, this new version swiftly descends into alarmingly familiar madness.
‘I am the seagull, no wait that’s not right. I am everything. I am the future. No…I’m right now. I’m this moment. I am these sticky floors. Christ. Did anyone bring any booze? I feel like I’m dying here.’
